FEEDING DIRECTIONS: Feed to growing fish once or twice a day. In the Spring and Fall when the water temperature is relatively low, the fish may be fed every two days. Distribute the food on the water surface and give only as much fish food as the fish will consume within 20 minutes. Food should not be allowed to settle or collect on the bottom of the pond where a buildup will deplete the dissolved oxygen (DO) and reduce the water quality in the pond. Buckeye 32% Pond Fish Food is specifically designed for warm water fish such as catfish and tilapia. It will also compliment the nutritional requirements of cold water fish, such as trout and bass, where a substantial portion of the diet is composed of natural aquatic food organisms. ie. Mosquito larva, algae, other small fish. The fish feeding schedule should be coordinated with higher levels of DO in the water when fish are more active. It is recommended that feeding not occur until 5 hours after sunrise and not immediately before sunset. The oxygen required by ingesting food will normally peak 4 to 8 hours after the food has been consumed. This should be taken into consideration when feeding in the afternoon. Therefore we recommend morning and early afternoon feedings, with little or no feeding in the evening. IMPORTANT MANAGEMENT NOTE: Care must be exercised to reduce the possibility of fish kills caused by low levels of dissolved oxygen (DO) in the pond water. This will normally occur just before or immediately after sunrise. One of the main sources of DO in the water is photosynthesis produced by the pond algae. Peak levels of DO will normally occur about 6 hours after sunrise and maintain those levels until late afternoon. Another risk causing low water DO and a possible fish kill is natural algae die-offs which can occur almost without warning from such things as a pond turn-over plus a number of other phenomenon's. It is highly recommended to have a pond aerator available or running continuously in the pond to maintain the level DO in the water to prevent fish kills caused by low DO levels. Keep the feed fresh to encourage consumption and maintain floatability. |
